After spending a night at the infamous house, Holzer concluded that the site was haunted by the angry spirit of a Shinnecock Indian Chief, whose burial ground was desecrated by the house's construction. While this claim has been met with controversy, it nevertheless firmly established Holzer's position in popular culture and made the Amityville House a famous landmark in the field of the paranormal.
