How to Record and Release a Song
Do you dream of becoming a rock star?
Maybe you’re a new artist or band and wonder how you get your music published, distributed and put on Spotify and other music Apps?
You don’t need a label or a publisher, you can do it yourself and it’s really easy peasy, most of the bands we know are self-published.
The first step of course is to write and record a song, to record it you can just reach out to one of the many recording studios dotted around Nottingham.
The one Nottingham band Jimi and The Strangers use is Mount Street Studios in Nottingham city centre, or just Google recording studios in Nottingham to shop around.
Charlie and the guys at Mount Street are really cool, experienced and understanding when dealing with new artists and bands.
The fees are really competitive and they offer recording and mastering services as well as providing you with a ton of additional advice.
Once you’ve recorded your song and you’ve received the mastered audio files you can then sign up with a music distribution company like Tunecore or Ditto, again it’s really easy to sign up and upload your music, they will then distribute your track to all the major music stores and Apps, they will also provide you and your song with a ISRC code and UPC number.
An ISRC code (International Standard Recording Code) is a 12-character, alphanumeric code that is assigned to a piece of music set for commercial release, so wherever it’s played in the world it will be tracked and royalties will be collected by your distributor like Tunecore or Ditto, they will then pay out any monies received, it’s all explained on their website.
Once its distributed and you want to become a verified artist on Spotify just go to the Spotify for artists page and follow the instructions.
And that’s it……….
If you are a new band or artist and have followed this advice and become massive don’t forget who gave it to you, some free merch, tickets or tracks for our subscribers would be really nice. Ta kindly.
Keep rocking people.
