Drone Queen
Drone Queen, the Nottingham-based heavy alt-rock duo, have been making waves in the music scene since their formation at the start of 2024. Comprising Lewis Hill on vocals and guitar, and Elliot Needham on drums, the pair have quickly garnered attention with their raw, emotionally charged sound. Their music combines hard-hitting alt-rock with poignant themes of love, loss, toxic relationships, anxiety, and self-worth, resonating with listeners through both their recorded work and live performances.
The duo’s discography, though brief, is already impressive. Their singles include Pomegranate, Devil in the Details, Carnivore, Intro, and their latest release, The Sound. Each track showcases Drone Queen’s ability to blend aggressive, heavy riffs with emotionally vulnerable lyrics, creating a signature sound that’s both powerful and introspective. Their single Carnivore quickly gained traction, earning a spot on BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show with DJ Daniel P. Carter, which helped propel them into the spotlight.
Their most recent single, The Sound, released on 6th June under Little Attic Production, exemplifies their distinctive style. It opens with a reverb-heavy riff before building into an explosive fusion of drums and guitar, all while Hill’s lyrics explore deep emotional themes. The balance between aggression and emotion sets Drone Queen apart from many of their contemporaries in the alt-rock scene.
Known for their compelling live shows, Drone Queen are set to support Nuns of The Tundra at Rough Trade Bristol on 14th September, and they’ll be playing Hockley Hustle in Nottingham on 20th October. As they continue to evolve and grow, this duo is positioning themselves as one of the most exciting new acts in the UK’s alt-rock landscape. Keep an eye on their upcoming releases and live performances for more from this talented pair.
