Shew Drew The Gun
Over nearly a decade and three studio albums, Wirral’s Louisa Roach has shaped She Drew The Gun into a truly singular musical force. Describing her sound as “scouse coast junkyard trip-hop,” Roach blends the gritty undercurrents of her hometown with an expansive sonic palette influenced by 80s electronica, hip-hop, political poetry, and cosmic scouse psychedelia. It’s a style steeped in the DIY ethos of her roots, honed under the mentorship of The Coral’s James Skelly during the band’s early days.
She Drew The Gun’s debut, Memories of Another Future (2016), quickly garnered attention, earning Roach the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition title. This was swiftly followed by Revolution of Mind, a standout release that landed among BBC 6 Music’s Albums of the Year. By the time Behave Myself dropped in 2021, Roach’s song writing had evolved into a polished yet uncompromising force, with Clash praising it as “some of her most finessed and contoured work.”
What sets She Drew The Gun apart is Roach’s relentless pursuit of truth through music. Her lyrics don’t just scratch the surface; they dig deep into societal injustices, political discontent, and the stark realities of modern life. But with the forthcoming album Howl, due out on November 15th, Roach turns the lens inward, exploring a more personal territory without losing the edge fans have come to love.
The lead single Washed In Blue is a prime example, blending silky drum beats with Roach’s evocative vocals and opening with keys that draws listeners in. It’s already racking up impressive streaming numbers and sets the stage for an album that promises to be both introspective and explosive.
She Drew The Gun’s live shows are where her vision truly comes to life—a mix of raw energy, poetic insight, and political punch. Don’t miss the chance to see her live and meet Louisa at the album signing at Rough Trade Nottingham on November 17th. For tour dates and more information see HERE
