Jim Jarmusch’s “The Dead Don’t Die”

Imagine the characters of a movie acknowledging what the movie’s theme song is - and the plot line. That’s what Adam Driver’s character did in Jim Jarmusch’s latest zombie flick, “The Dead Don’t Die.” He went a step further than most zombies have ever done. He instilled ingredients of humour without making it funny. In my opinion, one could call that the essence of irony.

Adam Driver’s character breaks down the fourth wall by acknowledging that he knows that it’s “not going to end well,” because he read “Jim’s” script.

The movie is a force of irony and satire on many levels. Jarmusch makes fun of Wes Anderson by employing the great Bill Murray and Adam Driver and rendering them essentially useless in their ability to make decisions. It is an indictment against style…the only way we actually know that it is a Jarmusch movie is because of the soundtrack.

Jarmusch succeeds fantastically in his ability to mock reality as well as the zombie genre.
