Meet Me on the Moon - Sam Scherdel

Sheffield-born Sam Scherdel is back with his brand-new five-track EP, Meet Me on the Moon, out 7th February 2025. After a monumental 2024—signing with Blaggers Records, headlining his own shows, making major festival appearances, and supporting massive acts like Two Door Cinema Club—Scherdel is continuing his incredible trajectory and kicking off the new year in style within the alternative and indie rock scene.

Meet Me on the Moon explores expansive soundscapes while remaining deeply intimate. The release showcases Scherdel’s ability to blend vast musical arrangements with vulnerable storytelling. Dubbed the “South Yorkshire Springsteen” for his signature mix of heartfelt, country-tinged folk and the grit of alternative indie, this EP is a masterclass in both lyricism and musical craftsmanship.

The country-inspired influence shines through on the opening track, "If We Danced." Rooted in classic country storytelling, the song weaves vivid lyrics about life, love, and heartache, all set to a melody that’s as simple as it is striking. A mix of acoustic guitars, fiddles, and harmonicas creates a warm, authentic sound, grounding the track in familiarity. From the very first note, it captures everything Scherdel is celebrated for—impeccable craftsmanship and raw emotional vulnerability.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Scherdel himself about the EP’s creation. “I wanted the tracks to explore different genres—or at least bits of different genres—while keeping the alternative thread throughout,” he explained. This versatility is evident in the contrast between the opening track and the second, "Somebody Else." While the opener is a love letter to country influences, "Somebody Else" and "Breathe" are explosive alternative tracks, blending rock energy with raw, emotional depth. But Scherdel doesn’t let listeners get too comfortable. By the time the fourth track, "The Bitter End," loops around, he introduces an unconventional mix of violins atop a classic indie rock drumbeat. This innovative pairing creates a bright yet dreamy sound, balanced by the intensity and vulnerability of the lyrics.

Scherdel explained, “I worked with some great people on the record, including Gav Monaghan [...] we worked across four different studios for the tracks.” The collaborative effort is evident in the EP’s diverse influences. What could have been a disjointed mess instead emerges as a highly polished, dynamic record. The pacing is flawless, taking listeners on an engaging and emotionally charged journey.

Don’t miss this upcoming release—Scherdel is undoubtedly an artist to watch in 2025. The album drops 7th February via Blaggers Records and will be available to buy or stream across all major platforms.
