Mye_Taai – ‘Blue Tick’ (ft. Jamie Thrasivoulou from KEZ)
An email landed in our inbox recently, and at first glance, it looked like spam – sent to a list longer than your nan’s Christmas card pile, ‘What the fuck is this’ I thought.
Turn’s out it’s Mye_Taai’s latest release, ‘Blue Tick’. They call themselves ‘Rave Club Punk,’ which I had to look up because, honestly, what does that even mean?
‘Blue Tick’ kicks off with a minimalist synth click beat, dropping into the first line: “The basics in life not determined by…” and that’s where it all gets fuzzed out with layers of synth and bass. It’s an almost taunting intro, hiding the lyrics under gritty, electronic distortion. And that’s Mye_Taai’s way – teasing you into this relentless, dark landscape of bass-heavy, spoken-word dystopia. Mike’s voice has a kind of sneering familiarity – like he’s wandered over from Liverpool, despite the fact they’re from the Netherlands – giving the track an odd but magnetic edge.
This 3:36-minute trip isn’t for everyone, but if you let it, it’ll worm its way into your head, and before you know it, you’re nodding along like one of those rabid dashboard bobbleheads. It’s packed with grungy, synth-driven tension and delivers what Mye_Taai’s press release promises: “a shadowy world reflecting the struggles of connection in a digital age.” As the beats get nastier and the synths sleazier, you’re catapulted into a ranty yet poetically potent tirade on modern life. It’s the kind of track that makes you feel like you’ve just stumbled out of a basement rave into the middle of a street protest and then gotten arrested.
At 2:51, everything cuts. “My mind’s a fucking mess,” spits Mike, and then Jamie Thrasivoulou’s voice booms in, tannoy-style, dragging you into the final stretch. It’s this mad mix of electronic chaos and rally cry that’ll have you double-checking your own grip on reality. Jamie’s Derby tones echo through, taking shots at our obsession with status and that little ‘blue tick’ next to our names.
These guys are tearing through every social nicety with sharp commentary and even sharper beats. From the heart of The Hague, they’re making music that feels part basement rave, part pissed-off poetry slam, and 100% unfiltered. They’re hitting The Grove in Sneinton Avenues on November 8th – don’t miss it if you want to see this madness in the flesh.
‘Blue Tick’ drops on October 31st. Dive in if you dare – this one’s for those who can handle the filth and fury of rave club punk.
