Sister of the North by Lace Thief

Sister of The North Cover Art.

Lace Thief’s latest single, Sister of The North, is a delicate and reflective piece that captures the raw emotional landscape of distance and sisterhood. The song opens with a steady rhythm of drums and bass, building into a dreamy, synth-driven melody that echoes the sentiments of long-distance relationships and personal sacrifice. The opening line, "I'll follow you up to the north, it's colder up there, and the houses aren't worth a lot," sets the tone for a journey that is both literal and metaphorical.

The track unfolds with Lace Thief's distinctive vocals layered over ethereal synths, drawing subtle influences from artists like Beach House and Soko. The song evokes the nostalgic sound of Joseph Dolan’s ‘Wait Till The Clouds Roll By’ and Steve Perry’s ‘Foolish Heart,’ blending sentimental melodies with modern indie-folk sensibilities. The lyrics convey a deep yearning for connection, especially in the chorus with the poignant line, "If this is what you want, if this is what you want."

Lace Thief

Entirely written, recorded, and produced in Nottingham, Sister of The North is the third offering from Lace Thief, following the success of Inheritance and Low Sun—the latter having garnered the most attention to date.

To celebrate the single's release, Lace Thief will be performing a headline show at Rough Trade, Nottingham, on 28th September with a full band, where she will also debut unreleased tracks from her upcoming album Inheritance. The event will mark the first works from her Local Honey visual album project, a cross-disciplinary collaboration with Midlands artists, including mixed-media artist Gemma Vincent. This project aims to shine a light on the Midlands' creative talent, decentralising the UK music scene’s focus away from London.

Lace Thief’s Sister of The North is not just a song but a part of a larger artistic endeavour, championing the Midlands through both music and visual art—a commendable effort that aligns with her poetic origins and her dedication to telling stories rooted in place and connection.

The single will be released on Saturday the 21st September so follow the links above and bang it in your calendar.
