What Film Makes You Cry?
Films are designed to illicit an emotional response. Of course they are. Films have to tell a story, unless of course you’ve watched ‘Cats’ or for that matter ‘Battlefield Earth’ with John Travolta.
But generally they do tell a story and do trigger emotional responses ranging from disgust (try 120 Days of Sodom), terror (it’s Hostel for me), laughter (that’s got to be the shit down the water slide scene in ‘The Inbetweeners 2’ ), happiness (try ‘Ground Hog Day’).
Then of course there’s the sad film.
That genre that get’s your tear ducks bubbling away like an over boiling pan of water with an egg in.
We all have that one film that gets you going, unless of course you got sad when Jeffrey Dahmer started telling his back-story in the docu-drama ‘Dahmer’ currently on Netflix.
Then maybe you don’t or maybe that’s the show that gets you going (freaks).
But yes, normal people have a normal type sad film that makes them cry each time they watch it, below are some sad titles:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Never Let Me Go
Mudbound
Collateral Beauty
Marriage Story
Manchester By the Sea
The Green Mile
Jojo Rabbit
A Monster Calls
Seven Pounds
Pieces of a Woman
Fruitvale Station
The Fault in Our Stars
Ingrid Goes West
The Book Thief
Bridge to Terabithia
The Light Between Oceans
First They Killed My Father
Finding Neverland
The Lovely Bones
P.S. I Love You
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
If Beale Street Could Talk
Lion
Charlie St. Cloud
Up
Fatherhood
The Pianist
Remember Me
One Day
Blue Valentine
Me Before You
If Anything Happens I Love You
Philomena
American Son
Room
The Hate U Give
And so on…..
But mine?
The one that get’s me going every single time I watch it is ‘St Vincent’ with Bill Murray.
I won’t spoil it for you but there’s one scene nearing the end that just punches me in the emotional cortex whilst wrapping it’s sad little fist around my stone like heart making it squeal like a pot bellied pig.
I blubber like a Tory MP who’s just about to lose his seat to the Green Party, oooooh I’m welling up just thinking about it.
Just watch it and you’ll get it.
So if you’ve been a bit emotionally disconnected from life lately, like maybe you’ve ignored that homeless person when you walked past them or you laughed at someone who nearly slipped on their arse then get out your cry baby film and give it a whiz. We all need a good cry now and again, some more than others, why not set up a cry baby watch party?
Anyway, if you haven’t seen ‘St Vincent’ give it a go, you may actually like it.
A young boy whose parents have just divorced finds an unlikely friend and mentor in the misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic war veteran who lives next door
Watch it
Mmmmmm Food.
A picture of burger and fries. Just delicious.
