Commons
You know what it’s like… you’re supposed to be going into town to meet people, but your bed, TV, or PlayStation just seems way more appealing, right? This was the predicament I found myself in when Commons found their way onto my Alexa.
Their upbeat blend of '90s Britpop and synth-driven undertones, found on "In My Head," soon had me energised and reaching for my phone to pop on their EP, "Clean Living." Which, judging by the hilarious cover art, isn't something the band necessarily prescribes to themselves!
The five tracks, taking in influences from Metronomy to Kasabian, via The Stone Roses and Arctic Monkeys, filled my room and had me bouncing out the door for what was indeed a night of questionably clean living!
From their Spotify:
Commons are an alternative/indie quintet hailing from Nottingham, UK. The band's music blends indie rock aesthetics with electronic elements, resulting in a unique, atmospheric tone. The added layers bring depth and texture to the band's songs, which are diverse and dynamic. The group showcases the five-piece's ability to bridge the gap between dreamy soundscapes, cinematic synth tones, and raw guitars. Commons offers a remarkably kaleidoscopic range of sounds, highlighting their ability to channel a vast array of creative influences while retaining a personal twist. The melody, power, and energy of the band's music don’t just shine in the studio; Commons has already demonstrated their electrifying live antics before a sold-out crowd at Beat The Streets in January, supported The Family Rain at The Bodega in April, and topped it off with a sold-out debut EP release at Rough Trade Nottingham in June.
